Why The Ragdoll Is One Of The Most Popular Cats

Top FCA Cat Breed

The Cat Fanciers Association had Ragdolls as their #1 popular cat breed for four consecutive years, including last year in 2023. Ragdolls are popular because of their playfullness and suitability as a companion pet.

People love to have Ragdolls because of their pretty blue eyes and soft bushy tails. They have pleasant and intelligent looking features. A male ragdoll cat may reach over 20 pounds and a female cat up to 15 pounds.

Coat Patterns

Ragdolls have coats that feel as soft as cashmere. Their coats come in four different types of patters::

  • pointed
  • mitted
  • bicolor
  • van

Each of these patterns come in six different colors:

  • cream
  • blue
  • chocolate
  • lilac
  • red
  • seal

Pointed ragdoll cats have siamese-looking markings with dark ears, legs, and tails with a creamy colored body.

Mitted ragdoll cats resemble pointed ragdolls except they have mittens and boots that are fluffy and white, and so are their chins.

Bicolor ragdoll cats have white legs, a white underbelly, a white chest and an upside down V marking on their face are white. Only the tail, ears, and the outer part of their masks show darker markings.

Van ragdoll cats have crystal white bodies that contrast with their point markings and blue eyes. Only the top of the maks, ears, and tail, and sometimes some spots on the body show darker markings.

Personality

Ragdoll cats are considerate cats. They are careful not to scratch people and are good with children and older people. They are also kind and calm with dogs and other animals. Even when a Ragdoll is frightened, they don’t often scratch or get aggressive.

Radgolls like to stay on the floor and aren’t jumpers like other cats. They are affectionate and will greet you at the door. Sometimes they follow you around, sleep on your bed, and generally keep you company wherever you go in the house (even the bathroom!).

One of the traits that people like the most is their calm nature around the house. They will tiptoe around heirlooms on your tables, and be careful with your furniture. They just seem to blend in and be at home.

Grooming

Ragdolls do need a little help with grooming from time to time. Even thought they groom and bathe themselves, and don’t shed fur normally, their fur needs some extra attention that you will need to give. But they enjoy being combed, and it can mean fun bonding time with your cat.

Ragdolls are one of the most popular cat breeds in the U.S. People love their calmness, their fine looks, and the true companionship they provide. If you are wondering what cat to get, then a Ragdoll will have to be near the top of your list!
